Held at Lake Macquarie and hosted by LMYC there were 16 boats competing over the Australia Day Long Weekend in a best of 7 race series.Day 1 saw moderate westerly winds and some of the hottest temperatures of the year with the fleet happy to be heading back to the club for well earned refreshments after 2 races.
The series was dominated by Eat My Shorts from Lake Macquarie helmed by Chris Villa and Peter Johnson, winning 5 races and dropping only 1 point to finish on 7 points after discarding their worst placing (a third).Australia Day again proved to be a great day to be on the water with Eat My Shorts sporting a large Australian flag from their backstay throughout the last race. This seemed to have no adverse effect on their performance winning a close race by 7 seconds.Adrian Roche in Backchat, another Lake boat, placed second overall on 16 points showing the value of local knowledge.Another Dilema on 18 points was the first of the Middle Harbour boats winning two races and finishing in 3rd place.Defending champion Ben Nossiter in Sirius with Jim Vaughan as tactician fought hard to place 4th inthe series on 30 points.A fantastic atmosphere prevailed at Lake Macquarie Yacht Club providing a good venue for post race socialising.Overall a high standard and highly competitive atmosphere prevailed between the competing yachts throughout the 3 day series. As is the tradition the next Championships are planed for Middle Harbour next year.
